"Faultless"

About: East Surrey Hospital

Checked in at A&E with an obstructed inguinal hernia from a recent sporting accident. Seen and assessed very promptly by very polite, knowledgable and efficient staff. Consultant surgeon tried to manually reduce the injury but couldn’t, so was immediately booked in for emergency surgery. Full CT scan and x-rays followed. Taken to the assessment ward and was fully briefed on what the operation would entail. The operation was planned for the late evening and I was taken to a private ward for preparation. Suitably gowned I was then taken to theatre to meet the surgical team who were just superb. They did a really great job relaxing me and putting my mind at rest ready for anaesthetic. Two hours later I awoke in the recovery room, checked over and taken back to the ward. By this time it was early morning but the nurse got me something to eat and a cup of tea. By 10:00am I was walking around and talking to the surgical team who were doing their ward rounds. My recovery was assessed with my release scheduled for early afternoon.

What more can I say about the super efficient NHS care I underwent. I’ve had private medical insurance for most of my working life but nothing has ever met the speed, professionalism and efficiency I received from the NHS this week.

From the cleaners, nurses and porters through to the doctors, surgical and ward staff I would just like to pass on my gratitude and thanks for a totally flawless care service.

It is still rather comforting to know, especially with the advent of COVID-19, that we have the best medical system in the world.

NHS, I personally thank you for that.
