Arrived at Grantham Hospital, Lincolnshire for my 7.30am admission. Speedy and smooth process. Was given a side room in the Day (Short stay) Ward, with was basin and large window! Staff were friendly and efficient, and kept me informed of what was going to happen. Went down to theatre just after 11. Anaesthetist was very thorough and reassuring., as were all the staff. After the anaesthetic had taken effect, and everything from waist down was numb, I saw my surgeon and his team who prepped me to go into theatre.
Everything went very smoothly and to the scheduled timing. Was in Recovery before 2pm. Again very well attended and cared for. Back up to ward, after x-rays, by 3pm. Cup of tea and a sandwich gratefully received. Staff on the ward kept a keen eye on me and checked all was okay regularly. Food later was all good too. Anaesthetist even came to check on me before he went home - how good is that! Slept well, even with the regular check ups.
The physiotherapists did come and 'torture' me in the morning. But, after initial pain of getting out of bed, I could walk with a frame and sit in a chair with the knee bent sufficiently for them! Last test was climbing up and down stairs, which I also passed. The hot lunch of curry followed by apple crumble was delicious. So, shortly before 5pm I was on my way home! A thoroughly good experience. Couldn't fault the staff or the hospital. Everything was great. Hope to go again for the other knee!
