(as a service user),

I came via and ambulance with my daughter who is my carer and we were discharged after nearly 8 hours in A& E at 5: 50am.... I was told they would get transport to take me home but not my daughter as she is a relative.... she lives at the same address as my carer.... I had to get my other daughter to drive over 20 miles to collect us both as I and my carer live 30 miles away from hospital... as soon as I said I was being collected I was thrown out of my bed in just my nightwear to wait for my lift after suffering a diabetic hypo...... nurse in charges bed manner left a lot to be desired. I have memory issues and confusion due to cirrhosis of the liver and am on the dementia scale so need my daughter with me at medical appointments I feel myself and her were not treated right

Dear Furnella

I am sorry that you have had cause to complain about your experience in the Pilgrim Hospital Emergency Department when you attended. Unfortunately, transport is not controlled by the hospital or the trust, they are a private organisation who set their own criteria.

I can assure you that I will raise the other issues with my team and iterate the importance of ensuring our patient’s needs are being met. I am truly sorry and cannot alter your experience, however I can ensure that our staff learn from it.
