"My Midwife and my mental health"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Community Maternity Care

(as a service user),

I was so scared when I started feeling angry and upset a lot during my pregnancy. I was overly worried I'd loose my other kids and health professionals would think I couldn't cope because of these unwanted feelings. My Midwife asked how I was, she was easy going and so nice. I started to try to explain and she reassured me so much that I told her exactly how I felt, she was incredibly understanding and a weight just lifted, I didn't feel alone anymore. I even accepted to be referred to the mental health team that deals with pregnancy without anxiety about it attached and before I would never admit I was struggling but I am so thankful I did and it was all thanks to my outstanding Midwife. Now I have the support I need and not at all invasive or judgmental like I imagined.

Dear ProudMamma,

Many thanks for taking the time to write on Care Opinion. It must have taken allot for you to do this. I am delighted that you found your community midwife to be understanding and supportive during your pregnancy and that you were sign posted to the mental health team for ongoing care and support.

Best Wishes for the future.

Kind Regards

Heather Weir
