"Hysteroscopy"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

Went for a hysteroscopy  procedure today, can honestly say that it was the most traumatic  day of my life.

Given local anesthetic gel to start with, the speculum was not a problem but when the doctor used the camera to enter my cervix  the pain was excruciating. I was told at anytime that they could stop and I could come back and have a general anesthetic told  them unwisely I said no carry I don't want to come back it can't get any worse. oh how wrong I was.

After stopping for a couple of minutes to administer a local anesthetic  and me crying and yes I did scream the doctor said now I'm going to take a biopsy  and the pain was even worse. the nurses did try and help with chit chat sorry to say told them to shut up left after 20 mins with severe cramps and after a 30 min car ride home went straight for the morphine left over from back op in May. Haven't stopped crying feel sick now panicking because I've got a colposcopy  next month. I don't think they should be allowed to do this without a general anesthetic. Absolutely the worst day of my life.
