After being referred to James Cook for a scan, we travelled on one of the hottest days of the year, an hours journey, only to hear that the person doing the scan would be doing the same job at The Friarage in Northallerton (10 minutes from us) the next day and was surprised we had travelled! We then had a long, long wait for the result of the scan, followed by another hours journey home. This is not the first time i have been sent all the way to James Cook for a scan that is routinely done at the Friarage! Follow up scan was at the Robert Ogden Centre at Northallerton, which we know as the local cancer centre. A very stressful weekend worrying that my minor problem was, in fact much more serious, meant that i was very worried, sitting in the waiting area surrounded by MacMillan and Cancer Care notices, watching as people came and went for their chemotherapy/cancer care, only to be told, very brusquely, that of course i hadn't got cancer! I don't think my question "so why am i in a cancer hospital?" was unreasonable! A simple sentence in my appointment letter to say it was a non-cancer treatment would have meant a much less stressful weekend - a shame no one thought of that reassurance!
A very unhappy experience all round, most of which was caused by thoughtlessness and lack of consideration.
"Unhappy experience"
