"17 year old carer trying to register for a COVID vaccine"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde / Covid Vaccination Programme

(as a service user),

I have been trying to register for the COVID vaccine as a 17 year old carer. I live with my grandparents, one of whom had to shield during lockdown.  I have been trying to do so for over a month.

According to the NHS Inform website I cannot use the digital form as I am under 18 so I phoned them.

I was initially told they couldn’t find me on the database so I called back with my CHI number.

I was told there was a problem with my record and I needed to contact my GP. I contacted my GP and all of my details were correct.

Called NHS inform again and was told wait 4 weeks for a blue envelope. Nothing arrived.

Called again and was told there was no record of my request and I needed to register again and contact Health Board.

Telephone number online for Health Board does not ring 0141 201 4444

My gran called Public Health Scotland and was given another number for Health Board. She called and was told I needed to complete the online registration form which it states on the NHS Inform website I shouldn’t fill in because I’m under 18.

I have filled the form in and await developments.

Why, if you want young people to act responsibly and get the vaccine is it so difficult?

Dear tjmp

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the frustration and stress you have experienced when trying to arrange your Covid vaccination.

The advice is for young carers aged 16 to 17 to register for the vaccine via the National COVID-19 helpline on 0800 030 8013. I am unsure why you have not been given an appointment, it may be that you were not registered as a carer with your GP.

From tomorrow, (6th August) all 16 to 17 years olds will be able to register their interest via the online portal at NHS inform and will then be sent an appointment for their vaccination. We will provide updates about the vaccination programme for this age group via our social media platforms and website. If you are still having issues arranging your vaccination, can you please email PatientExperience@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your personal details and we will see if we can get an update? It would be useful if you could include your username in the email.

Thank you

Nicole
