My experience in Daisy Hill Hospital has left me feeling like a lot of changes could be made to improve the experience for many patients during their stay here.
I would like to say that the staff on the female medical ward, and in particular the nurses, are all fabulous - they are honestly like wee guardian angels and their care and attention has been amazing. However, there are a few aspects throughout my time here that have been less than desirable and where I think that improvements could be made: Firstly, the toilets and bathrooms are just not up to scratch - they are quite unclean and I can even see grime in places. At points I was close to volunteering to clean it myself it was just that bad. Furthermore, I feel that the nurses need to be quicker with removing samples from bathrooms as I personally feel this is not an appropriate thing to see in the bathroom for people when they are sick. By making these small changes it would immeasurably improve my experience on the ward. Another point I would like to make is in relation to discharge times. For instance, today I am waiting to be discharged and I am sitting out of my bed all day waiting to get home. Everyone is always complaining about the great demand there is for beds, but yet it has taken forever for them to write up my discharge letter. I understand that all the staff are run off their feet, but if even just a few of these small changes on the ward could be made that would make the hospital stay just that bit better.
