"Insensitive doctor attitude"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Craigavon Area Hospital / General Medicine (2 south)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I arrived into A& E on Sunday via an ambulance which I had a very long wait for. When I got to A& E again waiting times were horrendous, to make matters worse I had no contact with any member of staff for hours which made me feel anxious and lost in a system that didn't care about me and didn't intend to meet my needs.

Finally I was took in for a CT scan and after getting the results they decided to move me onto the ward. Now in 2 south I feel the nursing and care assistant staff are amazing and can't do enough to help me. I am made comfortable on the ward but find it difficult to sleep as at night other patients make lots of noise.

To comment on the doctors I think the quality of care that they have given me has been very poor. Some of the doctors I have encountered have been so abrupt and I feel they have failed to consider me as a patient as a whole, completely neglecting my anxiety and depression. One of the doctors in particular has been extremely insensitive about my weight and this has lead to extremely low self esteem for me over the past few days.

Good morning

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

We apologise regarding the length of waiting times in A&E the department has been under extreme pressure, with a significant number of patients delayed waiting on admission beds. This unfortunately causes delays in patients getting assessed and treated.

We wish to apologise our communication was not up to the standard you expected.

We hope you are recovering well.

Kind regards

Paul Smith
