After overdosing I called NHS 24 and the woman I spoke with was lovely and helpful.
Staff at crosshouse treated me well and with respect, no one judged me. The doctors went above and beyond for me, truly amazing. However, I felt the two members of the mental health team I seen were rude and unapproachable, they had no care for the way I felt and I left feeling worse than I did when I went in. They had no care in the world for what I had to say and as soon as I got upset they both got up and said that I was discharged and left the room. I sat crying in the room in disbelief and one walked in to tell me I was taking up space for other patients and to basically hurry up at which I got frustrated and scratched at my forehead till it bled - again purely out of frustration. I’m not stupid, I’m a university student and I actually know quite a lot as mental health is the sector I planned on going into and I know for a fact I wouldn’t treat anyone the way they did me. They really need to work on their presentation to patients because in no way is it okay to make someone feel the way they made me feel, I felt like dirt on their shoes and it’s made me think even more that I’m not worth living.
Thank goodness for the mental health hub as I called them when I left and they’ve led me here to voice my story and I feel a little better as at least someone in the mental health field can be empathetic and listen to the way I feel and what I feel I need.
