I was taken into Crosshouse Hospital last week. Unfortunately, the wait for an ambulance was going to be long but managed to sort a lift. I waited in A&E after about 3 hours waiting, I was seen. It was instantly evident why the wait was so long as A&E was so busy and there wasnt a bed to be seen. My first doctor in A&E was so helpful and although he couldn't initially pinpoint what was wrong, he kept me completely informed and at ease through all tests. After a urine sample came back, it actually came back as a positive pregnancy test (something I absolutely was not expecting!!)
At this point the doctor in A&E began to explain ectopic pregnancy, at this point I dont think he a totally believed this is what was wrong with me as I wasnt showing major signs of pain or typical symptoms however, he did make the call where I was then transferred to gynaecology. (Thank goodness he did)
I was then moved upto the gyn ward where again, I'm not sure the doctor was completely convinced that I was suffering from an ectopic pregnancy. However he was very helpful and explained what this meant and what the process would be once I was scanned in the morning.
That morning I met with my surgeon, again, who didnt seem convinced yet was very helpful and informative and sent me for my examination. At this point I was sent for an examination which did indeed show that I was suffering from an ectopic pregnancy and I needed to go for surgery, pretty much there and then. The nurses doing my examination were fantastic and made me feel a bit more at ease at a situation that I wasnt expecting and of course at this point was particularly scary. Everybody at that point rallied together to get me ready and prepared for surgery.
My surgery and after care went well and for someone who had no idea what to expect was pleasantly surprised at quite how easy going the process was. My surgeon was very good.
I would like to make a massive point in stating, every single nurse and domestics (not sure this is the correct word) on the gynaecology ward in Crosshouse Hospital were absolutely fantastic, every single nurse made me feel completely at ease, in a situation that of course was very daunting for me as I had absolutely no idea any of this was going on. I could honestly not have asked for better care, before and after my surgery and for my whole hospital stay. I will be popping in to drop something in as a little thanks (covid restrictions permitting) There is a few nurses who I'd love to be able to mention by name but unfortunately, given all that was going on, I cant remember their names. However, I would love for them all to get the recognition they deserve as they were fantastic.
All in all, outwith care - the hospital was clean and all covid rules etc. Adhered to. Rooms were regularly cleaned. Good variety of food, cant comment on taste as I didnt actually manage to stomach anything but was surprised at how much choice.
All in all, for an experience that was not nice! Staff really made it better for me and I cant imagine having gone through what I did otherwise.
