I am a patient with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of high functioning autism and i recently attended a rheumatology appointment at the Kellgren Centre. The hospital is massive! I am not from the North West and did find the sheer size of the site a bit overwhelming and i was staggered to find that the reception was unmanned at the Grafton Street entrance, so we had to find our own way to Zone E. A kind porter noticed we were lost and pointed us in the right direction. Everyone at the Kellgren was amazing. The nurse who oversaw the waiting room area even offered me a private room to wait in, presumably as she thought i may be more comfortable in there with my Aspergers. I've been to a few hospitals and nobody has ever done this for me, so i was really impressed that they would consider my difficulties to make waiting easier. The most autism friendly staff i have encountered thus far in hospitals. The nurse was very attentive. The receptionist helpful and friendly and the consultant was really receptive, thorough and explained everything clearly. The phlebotomist was also very professional. I have to return again soon for another appointment, but today's experience has put my mind at ease that i am in great hands and should receive the best of care.
"Really caring, attentive and professional.…"
