"They had no beds for me"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Maternity care Maternity care / Maternity Admission/Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

On Saturday just before 11pm my waters broke. I phoned Craigavon assessment unit and they told me to come in but to wait in the car and phone when I was in the car park. I done this at midnight. By 2am I finally received a call asking me to come in and go to room 2. I went to room 2 knocked the door and was brought in by one midwife but then told by the other they didn’t have time to see me yet and wait outside.

By 3:30am I was called back in and told to sit on a bed while my blood pressure was checked, I was left sitting on a bed in room 1 for a further hour not being seen and at this point I was in a lot of pain and very uncomfortable.

I was told just before 5am they had no beds for me, they offered me two codeine and told me to go home for a few hours to which I was getting upset as contractions were closer together and more painful. I was told I could try daisy hill hospital.

So my husband drove me to daisy hill hospital, and we arrived there at about 5:30am. I was examined and given gas and air immediately, I was 6cm dilated and vomiting with the pain at this point. I was immediately brought to a delivery room and treated excellent by the staff in daisy hill hospital and our daughter was born 5 and a half hours after arriving at daisy hill.

I understand Craigavon we’re busy but I am honestly disgusted by how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience and made to wait 5 hours in labour with no pain relief or so much as anyone asking how I was.
