After having acne for 6 years, I finally managed to get an appointment with a dermatologist so that I could be prescribed an acne medication which GPs cannot give. The dermatologist was extremely dismissive of my condition, said it was not bad enough for that medication, didn't seem to understand the impacts it has on my everyday life and even asked if I have tried washing my face which is one of the most insulting things I have ever been told, and she just gave me my fourth set of antibiotics which did not work. As soon as I left I sat in the car and cried so much. How can someone be so unprofessional and have such a lack of understanding. Its been a whole year and I've been referred again as the antibiotics did not work however I have been waiting 6 months for an appointment. By now my acne could have cleared up if that consultant had prescribed me that medication but instead I continue to be in physical pain and my mental health keeps deteriorating because of my condition. There was no reason to be denied that medication, it was completely up to that consultant. If my GP didn't think I needed it she would not have referred me! Even contacted PALS who just said sorry about that but there's nothing they can do. The whole system is absolutely awful, no one is helping me, and my wellbeing just gets worse each day because of my skin condition. I was even told to consider going private!!! Obviously I would have done that a long time ago if I had the money but I don't. So I am extremely disappointed, upset and still suffering over a year later.
