I was admitted last Friday with pneumonia, infection in the brain, DKA, organ failure and a heart attack. I was unconscious on arrival and had family by my side the whole time. The wards followed protocol so I had family by my side until Sunday and when I regained consciousness they were asked to step back and care staff took over. The care staff got me from an unconscious state to a physical state. They guided, assisted and supported my every breath for the next 48 hours. All staff members in AMU and staff members in resus who kept my body alive I can't thank you enough. Every staff member since then has also gone above and beyond.
1 North is amazing, the guidance , support, trust, willingness to learn and supporting me to learn, they tell me to rest when I need to. Moreover, they trust me to control my own diabetes which makes me feel respected. I am feeling a little upset tonight and I know the staff are outside my room there to support me. I am blown away by everyone. There is always someone to talk to and the staff give their everything.
I just have to say thank you for keeping me alive, words aren't enough.
My room is clean and the facilities - showers and toilets are 5 star hotel standard, the staff offer support with washing etc. The ward can be a little warm.
Regarding the food I am vegan and there aren't many vegan options, the current options are very carb loaded and it would be nice to see more fresh vegetables.
There are no improvements except that the staff need more consecutive days off.
