Admitted to emergency surgical assessment unit, left there for 5 days being told constantly by staff I was going for CT scan, which took 3 days as I found out from pupil nurse it had not been book.
I am extremely clinically vulnerable due to kidney transplant and therefor at great risk of dying from any infection, but especially Covid 19. I am also in established renal failure at the moment and was given medication that can actually make this very much worse, the side effect of this drug was not explained to me by any of the clinical team and I found out myself. Advised to drink plenty of fluids, which I do all the time, but when I ran out of water and no staff to be found I had to try to find some myself. At nurses station I asked a nurse if I could possibly have some and was told it’s over there go and get it yourself.
No patients wearing masks and even member of nursing staff not masked up, wearing their mask around their chin whilst walking around the unit and coming in and out, interacting with patients and staff alike. At one point actually having a conversation with sister….nothing at all was said.
Visitors not wearing masks at all.
Urine sample left for hours, sometimes more than a day in the one toilet.
This is just a brief summary of my experience as from start to finish I found the whole experience of being an in-patient absolutely appalling, frightening and with the exception of a very few members of staff, I generally felt unsafe and frankly disgusted.
"Lack of basic nursing care. Unsafe infection control."
