"Excellent care in 4 North"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

While my hospital experience was tough personally it was very good overall. The staff always go above and beyond what you need them to do and an example of this is that I don't sleep very well and there is always someone to talk to when I'm awake at night. I found that my wait in A& E was very long and the staff were overstretched. It felt safe in A& E but there was only one toilet between everyone so they could do with more toilet facilities. The staff in A& E were very good and the transportation from A& E to the ward was excellent and everyone was super. I was very pleased with the communication between staff and myself and I found that my questions were always answered and every step of my treatment was explained. I was happy with the space and privacy that I had in the ward and my only issue was that it was very warm and I felt like I needed some sort of air conditioning as it was so warm all the time. Apart from this my care was excellent.

Dear as2021 - thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience. It is lovely to read that you have felt well cared for and that all your questions have been answered throughout your stay. We understand that the wait in the Emergency Department can be long but as you will appreciate we have a high number of patients attending the department. I do acknowledge the issues around toilets and air conditioning and will share these with the relevant staff.

I will also ensure that your comments are shared with the Emergency Department Team.

I do hope you will soon be feeling better

Best wishes Christine Armstrong

Dear as2021 - further to my response above, I have been in touch with my colleagues in the Estate Department, who have advised me that the toilet facilities within the main lobby were recently upgraded because of the issue of lack of toilet facilities in the Emergency Department. These toilets are available for all service users and are also suitable for those who are less abled.

In addition we have been allocated significant funding to refurbish and upgrade the Emergency Department in Craigavon Area Hospital, this will include additional toilets and upgraded ventilation. This should greatly improve the service being provided.in the future.

Thank you again for highlighting these issues

Best wishes
