I was admitted to the ward, which was very friendly. My operation was slightly delayed, with the valid and acceptable reason being explained by the surgeon personally.
I was the last scheduled operation of the day and must say that all the theatre staff were friendly and explained the procedures and how things would progress.
I woke in the recovery room and once again everything was explained. The anaesthetist and surgeon both came to see how I was.
Back on the ward I was given a cup of tea and a sandwich box and looked after very well by the nursing and auxiliary staff.
I was encouraged to get mobile as quickly as possible the next morning (yesterday) then after lunch the occupational therapist and physiotherapists arrived to assess whether I was able to get home. I managed to get on/off the bed without assistance, get my clothes on without any help. The physiotherapist showed me the correct way to use walking sticks and ensured that could climb up and down stairs. I was then shown the exercises that should be carried out when at home. Note: these exercises are in the booklet given out in the pre assessment appointment and should be practiced before going for the operation. Overall I am happy with the treatment I have received from the whole team in the orthapaedics ward.
