"My dad's care"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as a relative),

Over the last couple of years my dads health has been deteriorating with being diagnosed with a few health conditions, some more life threating than others. He's has been attending Doctors appointments at his GP surgery and the attitude that staff have towards him is poor, such as my dad feeling like he a burden to staff and the medical practice this has made him not wanting to attend doctors appointment, call for appointments and this has caused his health to deteriorate rapidly. This has caused me a substantial amount of stress as my dad doesn't feel he's sick enough  to attend appointments due to the attitude that staff have towards him this includes reception staff and doctors.

I called personally to the medical practice to raise concern but I feel that my concern raised have not been met, being a health care professional myself ethical standards are not being met and person centre care is not the centre of my dads care. When I raised my concerns to the doctor they were nice and polite to me but when my dad calls the attitude changes causing him to feel the way he does.

This is so sad. Working as you do while caring for him is difficult for you too. Might it be possible for you to arrange his appointments when you can go with him? I note that skin cancer is listed as a problem. If you can call us we may be able to offer some help? 0773 823 1260 Leigh

Dear anonymous 10,

Reading this just makes me feel sad and I can understand how stressed you must feel with the whole situation. No one should feel they are a burden when seeking medical help.

Unfortunately, most of the General Practices in Grampian are independent contractors and don't check Care Opinion, so the best way to get feedback to them is through the practice manager. Having said that, if you let me know, by email or phone, where your dad is registered, I can share this with them. If you would like me to do that, please get in touch with me (kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot or 07885720267).

Take care,

Kirsten
