I attended the Nurse Led Hysteroscopy service in the Gynaecology Ward at Ayrshire Maternity Unit, Crosshouse Hospital today.
I was feeling quite nervous and anxious about having the procedure, but the Staff made my personal experience much easier by their kind, friendly and open attitudes.
The Hysteroscopy Specialist Nurse (Michelle Clarke) was amazing. She was so kind and very thorough in all her explanations and choice given for various aspects of the procedure. She did not rush me at all, and gave me the opportunity at all times to ask questions and to say how I was feeling.
My wellbeing and personal choice was made their priority.
The Staff assisting her (Pamela - Staff Nurse and Laura - Nursing Assistant) were so lovely and put me at ease from the time I arrived to the time I left. They helped to distract me by chatting and this enabled me to relax more, which in turn made the procedure more bearable.
I would like to say to anybody who has an appointment coming up for this procedure at AMU, please don't worry. I didn't find it as bad as I had anticipated, and with such lovely, kind staff it was a less unpleasant experience.
Only for the last couple of minutes of the procedure I felt nauseous, flushed, light-headed and faint but the procedure was quickly over and with a cold compress, fan, a nice drink of cold water and the kindness and caring of the staff, I was soon feeling back to normal.
Following the procedure, Michelle explained to me her findings and provided me with a very clear plan of when I could expect to receive my biopsy results and next steps (eg. she would write to my GP and request a prescription for relevant medication, and that I would receive an appointment for a review Telephone appointment with Michelle and a follow-up Ultrasound scan in around 3 months).
From my whole experience today, I can honestly say that I can't think of anything which would have made it any better.
I don't feel that there is anything which requires changing.
Thank you very much.
