I have now tried to get a GP appointment for one week at my practice in Stirling. The system is you can only call at 8am in the morning and get an apt for the corresponding day next week (although currently it is two weeks). I've diligently called every day starting at 8am and sometimes end up trying to call upwards of 40 times to get through only to be told I cannot make an appointment I have to call back the next day.
I do not visit the surgery frequently, but it seems inappropriate to expect people to only be able to ask for help at certain times of day and certain days of the week. People should be able to call to book an appointment at any time of day.
The receptionists I dealt with seemed to lack empathy and did not offer any additional information or support. When booking the appointment finally, the receptionist said the doctor will call me on Tuesday morning without asking me if that was an okay time slot for me. I felt like I had to say okay because I didn't want to have to go through a week of trying to get another appointment.
This is not a sustainable or person centred system.
