"Lack of empathy"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Riverside Resource Centre

(as a service user),

Being a long term service user, having a severe mental illness, in my opinion services here have gone downhill hugely in recent years.

I feel a complete lack of empathy over my concerns. They seem to downplay situations that they either don't understand properly or don't seem to have sufficient interest in. I was discharged from CPN services, at the beginning of the pandemic, due to not engaging but they don't seem to understand the level of stress I am under and anxiety I suffer that prevents me having any desire to participate in what they have wanted me to engage in. I also have a significant physical health problem, which put me in the CEV/shielding group during the pandemic. It has been suggested I have to use RCD but when I did, the situation again wasn't properly understood and I was told to phone my GP. Since that experience, I am reluctant to call and have, in fact, had lots of input from my GP practice, who has prescribed anti-anxiety medication and sleeping medication on several occasions.

Thank goodness for GP services, Samh, Samaritans etc, otherwise who else have we to turn to?

Dear Brigar636

Thank you for getting in touch.

I am sorry to read that you have been left feeling with a lack of empathy and understanding over your concerns.

You mention that you reluctant to call and I would urge you to continue to engage with the service to that you can receive help. I am glad that your GP has been supportive. I think it may be helpful if you contact the Service Manager responsible for the Riverside Resource Centre to discuss the issues you have raised. The contact number is: 0141 211 1430.

Kind Regards

Nicole
