"Day surgery unit 2"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

I was seen at day surgery 2 at Frimley Health in Camberley under Gynaecology It was my first time at the hospital, so naturally I was feeling nervous and apprehensive. The nursing staff made me feel very uncomfortable, due to their abrupt nature and lack of bed side manner. This caused my anxiety to increase which was not nice considering I was due to be admitted for an operation.

Before and after my operation, I was given conflicting information with regards to my aftercare, by the nursing team. The nursing staff had a tendency of gossiping a lot amongst each other without any concern of patients overhearing. One comment made which I thought was very unprofessional, was a nurse started to complain to her colleagues about working in a particular ward, due to the busy nature i.e. work load and types of patients. The nurses and the sister were more concerned about going home and enjoying the warm weather instead of focusing on their job.

The nursing staff showed no compassion nor any empathy towards me. It felt like I was just a burden to them. I noticed other patients feeling the same way as me. The other Frimley Health Hospitals that I have been to were professional and caring. The only positive experience at Camberley was with the surgical team, they were great.

There should be care in bedded in the nursing team especially with the nature of their work they do. This is coming from a health care worker.

I would not recommend this ward to anyone who is going through a very sensitive and personal ordeal.
