"Ignorant GP"

Arrived for an appointment 10 minutes early, no one else in surgery so I expected to be seen fairly quickly. Was left waiting for 40mins during which time no one went in or came out of doctors surgery, when I enquired if G P was in I was advised that he knew I was waiting but he was busy.

When I finally got to see him he hadn’t even taken the trouble to read my notes beforehand. No apology was given for the delay.

Considering the time that I had to spend completing the patient access form and then the time talking to a senior nurse before I could see the doctor I would at least expect him to have run a cursory glance over my notes in the forty minutes prior to seeing me.

I wonder if these GPS realise that time is of as much value to some of their patients as it is to them and perhaps a little time management is needed.

I know that surgery’s can and do run over but on this occasion there was no one before or after me.

I can only say that this kind of contempt for patients does nothing to enhance the surgery’s image, but then maybe the GP in question isn’t that bothered.

We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction at our service and the GP was running late . Please contact the practice manager who can investigate your individual case. However the GP may have been conducting telephone consultations with patients or out on an urgent home visit prior to consulting with you. it is some GP's clinical practice to ask a patient what is the problem so they can hear you explain the symptoms,to help them assess the full clinical picture. The GP will always spend the time needed with each patient even if this does make them run late and we cannot predict conditions the GP will be dealing with as some things are more complex.
