"Sons A&E attendance"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Radiology

(as a parent/guardian),

Overall fantastic service that was delivered to my 4 year old son from all staff in UHW A/E department and radiology when my son fractured his arm.

Every member of the team were under extreme pressure as the A/E department was so busy.

The calm professional nature of the reception staff who were being subjected to all sorts of verbal abuse throughout my time waiting at reception. They took my sons details efficiently and explained there would be a very long wait however organised pain relief for him while we waited.

After a couple of hours we were seen by the minor injuries Nurse Erin. She was so lovely, calm and kind towards both my son and myself that she earned his trust almost immediately and kept the examination of his arm as quick and painless as possible.

We were then sent to xray which was exceptionally busy and with only a few stuff continually xraying and scanning the high volume of patients despite being out of hours. All the xray staff were extremely helpful and efficient most notably Sharon who took the time to time to calm my son and reassure him when getting his xrays and then rewarded him afterwards with a small toy dotated from a charity.

Erin was waiting for us on return from xray and immediately diagnosed my son with a fractured radial head placed him in a sling to make him more comfortable.  The overall service we recieved was excellent despite all staff being under extreme pressure.

Dear kiwi99,

Many thanks for taking the time to send in your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about your son's injury and hope he is on the mend soon.

It is always lovely to hear such positive feedback and I will certainly ensure this is passed on to the team involved, in particular to the radiographer Sharon who help take care of your son.

With warm wishes,

Sara
