"Rude staff "

About: St Richard's Hospital

I tried to attend my 20 weeks scan appointment but was rudely turned away as I had my 11 month old son with me. There was signs around the waiting room saying “child on lap allowed” however the reception lady thought it was ok to speak down to me, shouting and throwing her arms around whilst shouting “no children have been allowed in here for over a year and a half now!” And why couldn’t my partner who was with me have him outside? (Wouldn’t be a problem but he has a broken ankle so unable to care for a baby whilst on crutches?) the receptionist jumped down my throat before I could get a word out, however I spoke to a manger via telephone later that afternoon who apologise for this woman’s rude behaviour and explained that only “newborns” are allowed to attend appointments. This is not clear as a “child on lap” could class my 11 month old who cannot yet walk! I think it’s disgusting that woman are being turned away due to having other children they NEED to care for! some people don’t have others to rely on to look after there children so they can attend appointments. Also it is not how pregnant woman should be approached when they first enter the ward for appointments. Staff should be trained appropriately how to deal with situations with more care and sympathy rather than judging. Very upset with how I have been treated, i am now very worried about having my baby at this hospital that I am looking to get a transfer to another local hospital.
