Recently I was a day surgery patient at St John’s Hospital, Livingston.
The procedure was carried out in the Day Surgery Unit and was under the Maxillofacial team (Dr Geddes). The procedure was being done under general anaesthetic and I was understandably anxious. However, every one of the staff I came into contact with treated me so well and they really deserve to be recognised for that. I unexpectedly had to stay overnight, but once again the staff took such great care of me and did everything possible to make my stay comfortable and less stressful. I don’t know the names of all those involved, but from the anaesthetists/surgical team/nursing team through to the porters and tea ladies all were a credit to the NHS. The nurses’ names I can recall are Val, Anne, Julie and Ashley, however all the team was fantastic. Also a mention for the lovely porters in the anaesthetic waiting area who put me at my ease prior to the procedure.
Currently, due to Covid, a stay in hospital is even more worrying for patients, but I felt safe, secure and cared for in that environment which is all down to the wonderful staff.
My heartfelt thanks to one and all.
(PS I have also sent a compliment via the NHS Lothian Patient Experience Team)
"Excellent care"
