"GPs Appointment System"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

To whom it may concern

I attended an opticians appointment in early June. After the examination the optometrist advised that my blood pressure should be checked given I assume the pressure in my eyes. I have Glaucoma. She told me I should have my blood pressure checked at the Pharmacy next door. She phoned them and I went along.

My blood pressure was on the high side after three attempts so the assistant told me she could phone the GP surgery to advise them and make an appointment to see the GP

To my shock she was told by the GP surgery that I should go home and fill out the e-form online if I wanted to see the doctor. I have found this algorithm is flawed and in the past I have found it difficult to navigate to a successful conclusion.

So I didn’t fill out the form. I didn’t speak to a doctor. Early one morning 2am I was wakened by what I thought was a heart attack, an Ambulance was phoned. The paramedics were amazing checked all my vitals and was advised to phone my doctor on Monday.

Yes my blood pressure is high, however not so much that I needed hospitalised.

Could someone please explain to me why after several weeks in Tier 2 this appointment system is still being used in health centres?
