I was offered CMP as I am a carer of my husband who has autism, an adult daughter lives at home with Autism, another daughter with dyslexia, a son also care for my two elderly parents who live separately. I work part-time until Covid. I wear a hearing aid, due to suffering from Mild hearing loss and severe tinnitus post shingles virus.
My husband is still on a waiting list for one to one help from NAS for 3 years now after his diagnosis so I feel I needed support of someone to help me.
I have completed a CMP course with an occupational therapist. That weekly 1 hour contact was exactly what I needed just to offload anxieties and stresses and refocus on the week ahead. She is an excellent source of support. I'm a mental health professional myself and benefitted from this outside, objective support network.
Together we drew up practical and workable strategies to face the week ahead and prioritise goals and it helped reduced the stress.
This is a very valuable and practical source of help! and should be offered long term to carers!
