I have on a scheme run by South Yorkshire Housing Association called Working Win, enrolled at the of 2018 until 2019. My Coach was helping me search for a job and at the same time helping to develop my confidence.
Unfortunately my job search area, as supported by my Coach, was in a very specific area of the Chemical industry for which I am qualified with a first degree and some Masters study, however there are extremely limited opportunities for work in this area and though I was prepared to widen the search I was encouraged to stick to the narrow field. I did not get a job.
My Coach left the program in 2020. I have fed back my frustrating experience of Working Win to the Good Work leadership team when I signed up with Good Work in September 2020. I was assigned a Coach, Joseph, we looked at my job preferences and my CV. The Coach and I considered those areas of work I would actually like to do and where they could be found in jobs not necessarily in the Chemistry industry. I also reevaluated if I wanted to be in the Chemistry industry at all.
I started to apply for jobs with Joseph's help. This help included filling in an online application forms and drafting a covering letters and once compiling a creative portfolio. With Joseph's support I am now much more aware of jobs which suit my health conditions. I am now applying for jobs very actively and am self supporting in writing applications. What is helpful is that my Coach continues to support my job search which means I have more opportunities to apply for jobs. He has also helped me define a future career path with longer term development goals. I have just finished my training for the Peer Ambassador role in Good.
