"Missing the Benefits of Hydrotherapy"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Medicine (wards 8, 10, 11, 14, 18 & 27)

(as a service user),

I am missing my Hydrotherapy sessions which were stopped due to the Pandemic.

They were an incentive to a personal exercise routine . I miss the enjoyment of exercising alongside fellow participants and the motivation they gave me. Whilst it was an inconvenience to travel to Paisley by train and bus rather than my local hospital in Greenock, I have advised and encouraged friends that the benefits are well worth the efforts.
I hope now that as restrictions are lifted we will eventually see a return to the sessions.

Dear Paulied

Thank you for your positive comments regarding the hydrotherapy service in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. It is good to hear how beneficial you have found the treatment to be and how the other participants help motivate you.

Unfortunately we had to suspend the service in both the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary in response to the Covid Pandemic. As it is a healthcare environment we have to follow government guidelines regarding patient and staff safety. This includes ensuring patients and staff socially distance within a hydrotherapy pool and follow personal protective equipment guidelines. Due to the humid and wet environment of hydrotherapy this has proven to be a challenging task, especially sourcing a waterproof surgical mask. We are working to address these issues with our infection control and health safety teams. While this is ongoing we are unable to give a date of when hydrotherapy will open but please be assured that once it is safe to do so hydrotherapy will reopen to provide rehabilitation.

Kind Regards

Alison Leiper

I quite understand your reasoning and it is reassuring that you are additionally seeking means to circumvent our current situation. Many thanks
