"A+e and disability"

About: University Hospital Of Wales / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I sprained my ankle about 2 months ago so booked in at a+e on the phone due to covid. I went with my boyfriend as I suffer from anxiety. We got to the door and the first thing the person said was can I not speak for myself as my boyfriend was speaking. This made me feel horrible as I suffer badly from anxiety and thought doctors would understand this.

The person on the door told me my partner couldn't come in with me due to covid. I was crying outside in the cold for 2 hours as I couldn't go in due to anxiety and autism. They treated me horribly saying I don't seem bad and I'm capable of talking so I shouldn't need my partner with me. I tried to explain how bad my condition affects me but they wouldn't listen and kept ignoring me. Eventually after hours I went in as I couldn't feel my foot and I was in so much pain. It was a horrible experience and I never want to go back. Next time I'll just sit at home in pain than be treated so poorly.
