(as the patient),

I had to have a covid test before a clinic appointment at Exeter. I had to drive 80 miles round trip and lose 3 1/2 hours work.

It would be so helpful if I could have a DIY test and send up via the local Medical Centre or Hospital or if the swab could be done by staff at the Medical Centre.

Dear Mr Edwards, My name is Lisa Moore and I am the Clinical Lead and Manager at the NDDH COVID-19 Testing Cell.

I am very grateful for your feedback as we are striving to improve our service and ensure we serve our community to the best of our ability during the pandemic.

I am very pleased to update you that we have recently established a postal service. With the success of the recent pilot of this service, we are now including General Surgery in the hope of reaching more patients.

The postal service - Patients are sent a testing kit to their home with instructions on how to self swab. Once the swab has been taken, the patient can take the swab to their local community site hospital where a black box signed C-19 is located in the main entrance, directions are included within the kit. Once the test has been processed at the pathology lab, a text is sent to the patient notifying them of the negative result so that they can attend their procedure in the confidence that they are COVID negative. Should the result be positive, then the NDDH Contact Tracing team will contact them to provide advice.
