(as a service user),

I am volunteering for Good Word with SYHA.   My Care Coordinator suggested I might like to volunteer with Good Work as a stepping stone to finding paid work.   This is something I wanted to do and it helps build up my experience in working one to one with people. The Peer Ambassador role will involve me being linked with a person who has asked for social contact and may have a range of needs and interests including someone looking for a job. It could also be that the person has experienced a crisis or is coming out of hospital.   I have been doing the online training for the Peer Ambassador role on the SYHA website while waiting for other checks etc,   I will have a manager and mentor when I start the role. I am really looking forward to moving on with this but obviously Covid has delayed things. I am particularly looking forward to meeting the people I will be supporting and getting out of the house.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for taking the time to let us and others know how our project is helping you whilst helping others. We take an immense pride at SYHA in the fact that we not only support people, but really work hard to understand what that support needs to look like. It is very important to us, to involve all people connected with our services in discussing what they should look like and what they should offer. I am really pleased that you have found something which is going to help you grow in confidence, and also an activity that should give you valuable experience that you can hopefully use in the future.
