I have recently been the recipient of a total knee replacement at Warwick hospital on 16th March and feel it appropriate to comment on my "journey" through the various
stages.
Having been referred I was seen by an orthopaedic specialist at Leamington hospital and subsequently seen in December 2019 after which I was given a date for my operation this could not take place as at my preoperative assessment a blood disorder was discover and the operation needed to be delayed. During the assessment and communication as to" what next" the staff were excellent
I was treated at the haematology department at Stratford Hospital which again was excellent
I was given, short notice as I had requested, a new date 8th January 2021,as but unfortunately due to covid this was delayed. I did request if i would be possible to have an injection but this was not possible again because of covid. My consultant took the trouble to call me to explain the situation and discuss alternative pain relief
When the theatre was released for orthopaedic use was fortunately offered a new date of the 16th March which I thankfully accepted. I was treated, as requested, as a day case
On the day of my operation all the staff on the ward, theatre and recovery were very efficient, but as important from a patient view all were friendly and allowed one to feel at ease. I consider this to be worthy of comment as clearly the staff were carrying out routine everyday work for them they took the time. I particularly with to mention the nurse who looked after me on the ward who as a day case managed my care to enable my release even though had other longer stay patients to deal with
Regarding pre and post operative nursing and physiotherapy during covid there was a clear package in place starting with exercises building up to surgery and post rehabilitation which was accompanied by high quality personal care
In summary my care throughout "my journey" was of a very high standard which was an impressive transition between the various departments to provide a successful outcome. My overriding conclusion of my care at Warwick Hospital was that of a "cottage hospital" not in any way a detrimental comment but the bringing together modern techniques whilst providing a friendly patient environment
With sincere thanks to all concerned
Tom Moss
"excellent caring treatment"
