"My treatment and care."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency Leicester Royal Infirmary / Older people's healthcare

(as the patient),

In January this year 2021, having already been diagnosed with Sepsis and Hospital acquired pneumonia after a knee replacement and spent a time at two Nottingham Hospitals. Three days after my discharge, I was contacted by the NHS Test and Trace Scheme and advised to self isolate as I may have been in contact with someone at the QMC.

Unfortunately, within another few days, I was admitted urgently to the Intensive Care Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary where I was diagnosed with Covid 19. I spent a few days in ICU before being transferred to Ward 36.  To me personally, this was the most terrible time I have ever been through during my life to date. I had never felt so unwell, trying to recover from a replacement surgery and then the effects of the illnesses.

With my hand on my heart, I can’t express the gratitude and feelings that I have for the entire staff of Ward 36 for the treatment and care I received during my stay enough. At the time, I had spent what felt like eternity away from my dear wife and family and this was beginning to affect me emotionally. Trying to recover was difficult as I was so weak. I don’t like naming individuals in case I miss someone out, but I will mention one person in Particular who I feel saved my life and gave me another chance.

Dr Lam. A fantastic devoted Dr who works so hard and so determined in her profession. I feel very lucky and honoured that I was treated by this wonderful person and her loyal and devoted staff. The warmth in all the staff in the way I was cared and treated was very encouraging. I saw some staff in tears with the pressure that they worked under and showed their feeling towards their patients. I felt really humble to have been treated with such a very caring set of staff from Dr Lam to the nurses to the housekeeping staff.

They would always make an effort to cheer you up and show how positive they were in my recovery. I am not one for writing such comments but the staff at this ward certainly needs praising for giving what I felt was care and attention way beyond their expected duties. I am convinced that the teamwork and friendliness of all the staff at Ward 36 of The Leicester Royal Infirmary deserve special recognition for the way they work together in their quest to enable the patient to recover. Each one of you was responsible for the way I came through this horrible illness and I owe my life to you all. To give you an indication of how bad I had been. Over a period of three weeks, I lost a total of three stones in weight. Approx 20 Kilos.

A big thanks and hugs to you all.

I will be forever in debt to you.
