COVID19, having a lockdown baby and developing bad eating habits triggered anxiety which I had suffered with some years previously. This time I was determined to sort it out before it completely took over - as it had all those years earlier. I called in to Inclusion Thurrock - a self referral service in my area.
I was given an appointment promptly, and introduced to my new therapist, called Amas. My first few sessions were on the phone which allowed me to develop a good relationship with Amas and led me to feel confident to move on to video chat. It is important to say that I did have the option to stay via telephone appointments without video if I felt more comfortable.
During the sessions, I learned that I was taking many many safety measures that were interrupting my life but I thought were helpful for my anxiety. Removing these ‘safety measures’ was nerve wracking at first but really did help me to put in to examination their benefit - ultimately proven not to help me at all!
As sessions progressed, trauma from the past (which I didn’t recognise as a trauma) was uncovered and addressed with a particular method of therapy (can’t recall the name) This was a turning point for me having dealt with the dark cloud hanging over me.
I now feel I have the tools to manage my anxiety (for me health anxiety) and learning my warning signs (for example, not enough sleep, working too hard or university deadlines).
Most importantly I can say I feel happier and more confident. I would recommend to anyone thinking about therapy to do it! It’s a process, you have to apply yourself and want the outcome - but it’s so worth it!
xoxo
