"They are practical, kind people who put you as the mum first."

About: Fife Community Services / Breast Feeding Support Service

(as a service user),

My breastfeeding journey started very poorly during my hospital stay due to poor support and information from the midwives. As a first time mum I had no idea that what I was being told was wrong and assumed the physical pain and damage was 'normal. ' Once I got home from the hospital I struggled to feed my baby and got in touch with the breastfeeding support team. I saw Susan, Gillian and Kelly throughout my ongoing support from the team and they were amazing. They have been the most positive part of my care throughout my whole pregnancy/post partum experience. They are practical, kind people who put you as the mum first. They are so good at what they do and gave me the opportunity to feed my baby that without them I just wouldn't have had the chance or would have ended up in even more pain. I honestly think there would be more success for mothers who want to breast feed if they met these girls from the beginning. They had such a big impact on my situation not only for breastfeeding but for my mental health too. They are absolutely amazing and I can't thank them enough.

Dear sunxc48,

thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience of breastfeeding support. I am really pleased that the breastfeeding support team were able to help you find a way through your difficult start and help you have a less painful and more enjoyable experience. I will be sure to pass on your thanks to the team, especially Susan, Gillian and Kelly.

I am sorry to hear that the support and information you received in hospital left you feeling that pain and damage were normal and I will discuss your feedback with my midwifery colleagues. If you would like to discuss any particular aspects of that care, please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will make sure your specific concerns are addressed.

The breastfeeding support team aims to contact mums as soon as possible after discharge from hospital and we have also increased the availability of antenatal support to help new mums feel better prepared for what is normal, and more importantly what is not.

I hope your breastfeeding journey is a joy as you go forward but the team are available if there are any bumps along the way.

My best wishes to you and your wee one.
