I want to thank the whole team, especially my consultant Karen, and the day surgery and nursing team at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in early April 2021. I have had really excellent care through the whole diagnosis process and surgery for cancer, despite the pandemic being at its worst.
From first approaching my GP in November 2020 to recent confirmation that I don't need further treatment after my surgery, the NHS team has been excellent. The CT/MRI scanning part was particularly scary and the radiographers were very reassuring. The whole operation was a really big thing to accept, but my questions and worries were handled sensitively at every stage and lots of reassurance provided. Although I was pretty terrified on the day of the operation, the day surgery team were great and made me feel well looked after.
My husband has also been included in all discussions and the most critical appointments too, which was helpful for both of us as I really needed another person to remember the main points and he needed the assurance about what I was facing as well. We are so very lucky to have the NHS and should never take it for granted.
