"The need for Hip Replacement surgery"

About: Belfast Health & Social Care Trust

(as the patient),

I have been on the waiting list since 2018 and in pain for some considerable time before that , not realising what was happening to me I waited some time before consulting my doctor.

I have been diagnosed as needing hip replacement surgery but now the excruciating  pain has progressed to my lower back , down my thigh to my knee and further.

I am loosing hope and terrified of loosing my mobility as my husband has glaucoma and needs my help.

I recently had a questionnaire from the trust asking if I would consider surgery in the Republic of Ireland or indeed anywhere and replied “most definitely “

I know that there are others waiting like me and we are all left  still hoping

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. Unfortunately due to the Covid Pandemic, elective orthopaedic surgery has been very limited over the past year with only patients who were at serious risk of permanent disablement being offered a surgical date.
The good news is that we are starting to rebuild our service and increasing access for patients. We will explore all possible routes to reduce waiting times and we hope to be able to position yourself and patients like yourself more timely access to surgery.
