"Upset caused 17year old child on their own in A&E"

About: Good Hope Hospital

I had to take my 17yr old Son to A&E as he had woken with left hand side chest pains. Fully masked, fully sanitized I booked him in with Reception only to be told I could not stay with him. Over 16 is classed as an Adult - that is not law!. Whilst I do appreciate the Pandemic of Covid is real, the upset & worry of leaving my Son on his own in a scary situation is not on & I should not have had to leave his side. I had to rely on Whatsapp messages from him telling me what was happening, I had absolutely no contact with Doctors/Nurses treating him, sending him for X-Rays & taking blood. As it stands people can now meet in person, they can organize 'Raves' in Liverpool but a mother is not allowed to be with her child in hospital...in A&E...in a very scary situation. Thankfully he was released the same day after 3 hours of testing & after 3 hours of me (a worried and scared mother) sat in a car imagining all sorts of horrors. I wonder - had he been 16 would they have let me through to be by his side or would Covid have prevented me? The receptionist even took my mobile number so why couldn't the Doctors/Nurses on site call me to update me on my Sons situation. I appreciate everything our Doctors & Nurses & all Staff do within the NHS & whilst I would recommend this hospital having to attend here yesterday & then be told I couldn't stay has upset me a lot.
