I needed to visit A&E as I was suffering with continuous leg and back pain, this was different, normally the pain is less frequent. I knew my GP would recommend I visit the A&E if I spoke with her as this problem is long term and I already take pain control medication. The last time I had visited A&E some months prior, I was admitted for an emergency back operation. So this was not an easy decision to again visit A&E. After waiting for some time, I saw a nurse who immediately questioned why I had come to A&E , why was it an emergency, was I on a pain management plan, etc, etc and anyway the wait would be up to four hours. Most unwelcome and upsetting. I survived that interview and waited in line for many hours to see a doctor who approach was similar to the point I suggested I should not waste his time and leave. So this consultation was stressful and upsetting I was in pain. No compassion from either the nurse or the doctor. The doctor asked what I hope to get from the consultation, I suggested an MRI as I'd had before. No not possible, did not meet the criteria. He did prescript medication which also has not proved successful. I left A&E feeling upset and alone with the pain.
