"Was not asked if I was ok"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

I have Anxiety that I manage pretty well. Last week I was admitted to Larbert Hospital in Scotland with something   very minor and was treated over night. But because of my anxiety I went downhill very fast. Whilst I was on the ward not one nurse asked if I was ok.

In fact I felt like I was being nuisance to them for being so upset. I would sit crying on my bed and they just walked right past me. Did not even ask if I was ok. I thought at first it was because they were too busy but I could hear them chatting for ages at the nurses station. So I know it wasn’t that.

It felt like they did not care. Not one nurse asked if I was ok psychologically. If one nurse had said let’s get a cup of tea and showed me a little kindness I would have coped a lot better. It is so sad that the NHS/nursing staff all places have absolutely no respect or recognition for mental health.

Thanks. I would like to remain anonymous.

Dear Larbert123

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Feedback provides us with such a rich insight into how we care for our patients.

I am so sorry to hear you have had such a negative experience; please can I assure you that this is not the standard of care we aspire to deliver for our patients. It would be helpful if you could contact me to allow me to gain a little bit more information around your stay in our care, I offer reassurance that we will continue to respect your desire of anonymity. Providing some more information will allow me to share your feedback with the ward team in a way that is supportive and promotes reflection from such valuable feedback.

You can contact me on 01324 566523 or you can email me pauline.donnelly@nhs.scot

I hope you getting better since your stay in hospital, I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards

Pauline
