My daughter received a head injury at school that required medical attention. The Baldock Surgery office was closed so I selected the emergency number, this was at 1329 hrs on Friday 30th April. The reception staff member (she refused to give me her name and in fact hung up when I asked her) insisted that the number I'd called was an ambulance line; I either needed an ambulance or not. If I didn't I had to wait and call back another time. Actually, if I needed an ambulance then it would be inappropriate to call a GP emergency number. Obviously I'd call 999. My daughter had a head injury. She was otherwise well apart from blood loss and fear. She needed someone to asses if she had concussion and whether her wound needed stitches. This is not something that can wait for the appointment system but similarly did not warrant an ambulance. When I called I was very anxious about my daughter and actually deserved to be spoken to calmly and respectfully. My daughter was next to me and overheard the lady, which upset her further.
"Great practice let down by reception staff"
