My 16 year old daughter has had Long Covid for over 12 months. She is still really suffering and is not being taken seriously by the Paediatrician at this hospital because the paediatrician doesn’t believe children get long covid.
Her symptoms have been: Chest pain Extremely painful headaches Couldn’t take a deep breath Breathlessness for over 12 months Fever for over a month Racing heartLump feeling in throat Sore throat Blisters on feetBright Red cheeks for weeks Constantly going to the toilet Jaw painBrain fogFatigue Burning eyes Numbness in both arms Numbness and tingling in low leg Brain fogHyperventilating when laughing stomach pain Feeling of dry throat even though hydrated Bruising Numb cheeks No appetite, losing weight Head Tics These symptoms are relapsing and remitting. She has now been discharged from her Paediatrician. The discharge letter stated there was a huge discrepancy between the symptoms my daughter is reporting compared to the tests that were carried out. The tests carried out were basic. I would have expected the paediatrician to do some research into long covid and think outside the box, this is a new virus . It is well documented that basic tests in Long Covid come back as normal, there are many cases of Long Covid causing organ damage that includes in children, covid surely does not discriminate on how it affects your body and who it affects. My daughter has been breathless for 12 months and she’s told by this paediatrician to move on with her life, her other symptoms at the moment are loss of appetite, feels nauseous, stomach pain, head tics, fatigue and a general feeling of being unwell. Her heart rate is often over 200bpm on minimum exertion. She has been left suffering with no help or rehabilitation. An adult surely wouldn’t be treated like this.My daughter was fit and healthy before she caught Covid 19. This is heartbreaking seeing her struggling everyday, this is not anxiety, this is not in her head, this is real and not being believed is really upsetting for her, it’s discrediting her as a young person.
