"Breast Cancer Journey"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Outpatients West Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as the patient),

I went for a routine mammogram when screening resumed late August 2020. I was recalled to breast screening clinic in Nelson Mandela within 2 weeks for further investigation. Was seen by MrMcKirdy the following week & breast cancer diagnosis confirmed. Options discussed & decisions made on next steps.

Met my breast care nurse Alison who followed up each step as promised. Mastectomy done in October at RAH Paisley. Further tests carried out & thankfully no chemo required but some radiotherapy at Beatson end of November.

My next appointment now October 2021. I cannot thank or praise each & everyone within NHS who looked after me during this time. I have laughed & cried with some of them as they saved my life despite the craziness of a worldwide pandemic. I was always treated as an individual but more importantly, they treated me with respect. God bless them all....not all superheroes wear capes, I know that from first hand experience x

Dear Angdc52

Thank you on behalf of our Breast Team at RAH Paisley, who were delighted to hear your kind comments and praise for staff following your treatment for breast cancer diagnosed at routine breast screening last August.

I am very glad that you found all staff to have treated you as an individual and with respect. I am also pleased you felt involved in decisions as they were being made, as this is our aim for all patients.

It is always good to be able to tell staff that their care has been appreciated but to be able to tell them they have been seen as superheroes saving lives is lovely

I trust you are now recovering and this finds you well

Kindest Regards

Alison
