Although I have had friends go through the process I had not experienced it myself until yesterday during the COVID pandemic. Everything from precontact with the ward to enter the building and make my way to ward 310 was excellent.
My nurse Linda explained the whole process of what was going to be a long day from 9. 00 in the morning until 1630 due to prehydration packs, chemo pack, flushes, post hydration packs and I think a steroid pack. I was the taken through the Tablets I would be given and the literature which had a 24/7 contact number in case I had any of the problems in the book which has a traffic light system to help you decide your response.
Not only was Linda dealing with me but various other patients who were attending for various treatments. Although Linda was my main contact all the staff worked as a close knit team doing what was required of them and unfortunately the only other name I can remember is Emma who besides her other duties walked with my drip stand while I was transported to and from my Radiotherapy treatment.
The tea coffee and lunch were again provided by helpful and cheerful staff. I was amazed how quickly the day passed but this was made possible by the caring friendly and cheerful staff going about their work in an extremely professional manner but still making time for you as necessary.
