"Hospital appointment from 2019"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Ophthalmology Outpatients New Stobhill Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a relative),

My father in law went to Golden Jubilee Hosp in December 2019 to have his eyes checked as he has a cataract forming. They thoroughly checked him and then said that he had Macular Degeneration which needed treated before the cataract could be looked at.

fast forward till April. It’s been a long slog of a lockdown for him, poor vision, isolation, and all the time waiting for word from Stobhill about his treatment. I decided to call today to check his progress on the waiting list to be told that he isn’t on the waiting list!  it seems the letter written in 2019 to advise stobhill of his requirements has not been received at Stobhill, therefore he is not even on a waiting list!

So needless to say I am angry, frustrated and above all upset that this man at nearly 90 has vision that’s getting progressively worse and now has to wait even longer!

Hi millimeterdm47

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion.

I appreciate why you feel angry and frustrated about the length of time your father in law has been waiting for an appointment. If your father in law's is happy for you to share his details, you can contact the Ophthalmology Service Manager on 0141 301 7430 and they can look into this further. Or we can liaise with Lynn from the Golden Jubilee as she has already asked you to get in touch.

Kind Regards

Nicole
