"Maternity care experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as a service user),

Getting pregnant during the pandemic my expectation was very different to reality. The community midwife Kirsty (in Hamilton) kept in touch with up to date information as covid rules changed and supported me to have the birth I wanted. Not having my husband present definitely increased anxiety at scans but the sonographers were friendly and considerate and that helped. The midwives at Wishaw labour ward were extremely busy but despite this they were professional and kept calm and cheery. My baby needed UV therapy and we were readmitted where the neonatal nurse, Ailsa and Stephanie were kind and patient. I’ve had 3 babies at wishaw since 2015 and the care has been better each time. The empathy and thoughtfulness of staff during the pandemic made the experience more bearable.

Dear Happybirth3

Firstly, many congratulation of the birth of your 3rd baby. I hope you are coping well at home and not having too many sleepless nights.

I would like to thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience of pregnancy and birth during this pandemic. It certainly sounds as though your experience was very positive and I am sure it will be comforting to other expectant mum's to read your post and take comfort in your words of thanks for the staff who supported you throughout your pregnancy.

It will be my pleasure to share your lovely comments with all the team.

Best wishes for the future.

Lesley
