"No person centred care"

About: Borders Community Services / East/West Community Mental Health Team

(as a service user),

So after receiving a diagnosis of EUPD, anxiety and adjustment disorder around 8 weeks ago, It was suggested that I was to be assigned a CPN (which hasn't been done) and also to progress on to the treatment pathway for PD.

After receiving a poorly worded guide regarding the pathway I seen a doctor for three sessions for "core treatment" which covered everything I was already doing/already had in place regarding safety. After the three appointments I was told that that the doctor felt I wasn't opened minded regarding trying new skills even though skills that were being suggested was things I already use and because I said for coping skills there needs to a connection/relevance with the skills so I can put it into place.

I was also told that skills discussed are evidence based and that evidence shows they work so I must not be doing it correctly. I highlighted the point that its all fine addressing feelings and what to do when they arise but also I need to be able to speak about the trauma/past experences while going through different skills for coping and stabilisation and I was told bluntly that isn't something that's offered and that the NHS is not a therapy service even though I wasn't asking for therapy.

This linked onto the other point that I raised that the "pathway" comes across as more of a check list rather than a guide for supporting people with EUPD at no point did I feel that the care was person centred I felt the approach was from the point of this is what the pathway says and if its not there we don't cover it.

I am now just feel left to fend for myself, where is the person centred care approach? yet again someone else who the mental health service has refused to help!!

I'm sorry you feel let down by the service and that your care has not been personalised, your feedback is important to us. We hope to resume work to review the patient pathway for your condition very soon. Unfortunately previous work had to be postponed during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

I am very sorry that you feel there has been a lack of person centred care in your involvement with our service. I will feed back your concerns that the guide regarding the PD pathway is poorly worded and not helpful. Unfortunately we do have a waiting list for CPNs at present and this is why one of our doctors (who is also a trained therapist) is doing these initial sessions. This allows patients assigned to the PD pathway to be seen sooner for the core treatment. We are currently working on making improvements to our trauma informed practice and hopefully we can continue to work with you to identify the most appropriate support.

I would like to get support but the fact I feel I am being blamed for the lack of progress with the west team makes my situation worse than actually helping
